Should I wear a Tuxedo on my wedding day?

Whether you should wear a tuxedo on your wedding day depends on the style and formality of your wedding. While a classic lounge suit remains a popular choice for UK weddings, tuxedos have seen a huge rise in popularity in recent years, particularly for modern, elegant and luxury weddings.  Honestly it depends on how you feel about the look when you try it on!

A tuxedo can instantly create a more formal and sophisticated look, if that’s what you want. Traditionally reserved for black-tie events and evening celebrations, today’s grooms are increasingly choosing tuxedos for daytime weddings too, especially at country house venues, luxury hotels and exclusive wedding venues and as you may know we have lots of those here in Essex and the surrounding counties including Norfolk and Suffolk. The clean lines, satin lapels and refined details give a timeless appearance that photographs beautifully and helps the groom and groomsmen to stand out.

A tuxedo works particularly well if your wedding has a dress code or you’re aiming for a glamorous, contemporary aesthetic maybe at upscale luxury venues such as Leez Priory Gosfield Hall or Down Hall. Black is the traditional choice, but ivory and navy tuxedos have become incredibly popular as they offer the same elegance while feeling versatile. White and ivory dinner jackets are a fabulous option for destination weddings and summer celebrations.

That said, a tuxedo isn’t the right choice for every wedding. If you’re planning an upmarket trendy but relaxed barn wedding at somewhere like Houchins or Crondon Park, a rustic countryside celebration or a laid-back outdoor ceremony, a beautifully tailored lounge suit in green or stone or navy may feel more appropriate and in keeping with the atmosphere and vibe of the day.

But ultimately, there are no hard and fast rules. Your wedding suit should reflect your personality and the style of your wedding. If putting on a tuxedo makes you feel confident, comfortable and like the best version of yourself, then it could be a great choice.  Don’t stress out about this decision, book an appointment with us at The Grooms Room in Colchester and see what looks and feels good on you.  We can help you make a decision having served Grooms and their entourage for twenty years plus winning 31 incredible and industry based awards, you could say we know a thing or two about wedding suits.
